Jack Up Floor - Ultimate Performance
Designing a gym on the 56th floor of a residential building presents some big challenges. Mitigating against noise is the biggest. In the case of Landmark Pinnacle the Acoustic Consultant and Design Team wanted a belt and braces approach so that there would be no disruption to residents of the premium real estate venue.
Landmark Pinnacle is a 233-metre high rise building in Marsh Wall on the Isle of Dogs, London, United Kingdom. It was designed to be the tallest residential building in Europe and will have more habitable floors than any other building in Europe.
Sport & Fitness Flooring were commissioned for the installation of a Kinetic specialist jack up floor system supplied by CMS Danskin. An installation set out drawing and structural engineer design were provided based on gym layout of equipment and loadings: Installation process is detailed as below:-
Set out of acoustic cannisters with spring insert sequence.
Acoustic dampeners were fitted to perimeter edges and all columns to ensure the new jack up slab would not come in to contact with the existing building.
The gym floor construction slab was marked out as per the location plan and then a clear bond breaker polythene sheet was set out.
The cannisters were fixed in to place with caulk and connected with 12mm rebar. This rebar was overlapped at 600mm and set at max 250mm centres CR35 concrete was then installed to 100mm level with the canister tops.
When the concrete had cured (28 days, the temporary cannister lids were removed and the bases, rubber gaskets and springs in accordance to set out drawing and colour coded legend were installed with permanent lids. The floor was then jacked at approx. 3mm per cannister in sequence.
The gym flooring can then be installed and the gym equipment commissioned.
