Design and Specification for Sports Flooring
The design and specification service we offer is delivered in high detail. An interior designer, for example, will look at floor, wall and soft furnishing finishes, colours, fabric and so on.
We split the process in to three key areas. Technical, Design and Installation – What are the technical requirements of the floor? These could be biomechanical response for a performance space, dropping of free weights in a gym, slip resistance in a changing room, traffic volume in reception areas, acoustic performance. We would therefore go through a cognitive stage of understanding the space whilst looking at present and future requirements. This helps to narrow down specification.
The next stage in the process is design criteria. Any building should fit in with its surroundings and environment. We should look at our customer audience and design the space in line with their consumer profile. Use of colours, borders, walkways and zones, linking the floor in to the walls, lights and doors. Corporate colours can be introduced, different floor coverings can be used where appropriate and set at various finished floor levels or at a single datum. Flooring grade decals can be used to logo up the floor space.
Finally, we look at installation method. How is the floor going to be installed and what are the sub floor requirements. There are a number of fit methods for both new build and refurbishment projects and we can help provide information on these that will best work for the project. The final specification can be put together in a report or a Bill of Quantities so that a number of installation companies can price the work in transparent way itemising the quote.
